I’ve had my fair share of hotels that could be anywhere and restaurants that serve the same tasty somethings. But here, sitting on the floor of a house in provincial Malaysia, looking through photo albums of people I don’t know and listening to a language I can’t understand, here, feels like home.

Filled with genuine smiles and a ready laughter, a Malaysian homestay is ideal for the traveller who wants to experience a destination, and its culture, through the lives of locals.

Homestay Malaysia offers programs throughout the country, but we’re driven three hours from Kuala Lumpur to the rural village of Kuala Medang. It’s a beautiful spot, surrounded by lush green.
